Over time the cemetery at Norfolk Island has been sand blasted from the winds from the sea alot of the headstones had fallen over and even broken and some had even been preserved when buried in the sand blown up from the beach. In 1972 work began on the restoration on the colonial graves and head stones, and work is still being done today to protect this cemetery from the wind, sand blown in from the sea quite a few have been restored and a number of the head stone have been re-carved or re-written in black which made it very easy for me to be able to read most of what was written on the headstones I do apologize if I have made any mistakes with names dates etc from head stone that have not yet been restored. This cemetery data is not complete, a further trip is required. Julie. N. |
